Art Update

So I recently won an art competion, and i would like to thank everyone who voted for me!!! You guys are awesome. The prize includes coaching sessions to form a business plan to sell my art professionally along with a facebook fan page.

As far as current work goes, I have been focusing on my classes in school.

I recently made a series of prints in my printmaking class that makes the connection between anatomy and botany on a cellular level. Check it out:

Rob (my OZ climbing partner) and I have found our new fav bouldering spot: The Bat Cave. There are few cool problems there and it makes for some good overhung training! Here are the pics:

a day in the life

In a recent post I wrote about climbing in Australia and failed to post pics of the closest climbing area, Kangaroo Point. Here are some photos that I have been slow with posting!!! The pictures were taken from my roommate, Amber Yandle, who took them for a photojournalism class.

BRISBANE RIVERFIRE

This weekend was riverfire, a festival that celebrates the Brisbane River.

When my roommates first asked if I wanted to go see fireworks with them, I agreed, but I was just imagining a little average firework show. You know.

What I saw, however, completely blew me away. Jaw-dropping. Overwhelming. Just absolutely amazing.

Imagine a skyline of buildings all blowing off fireworks, especially from 3 different areas across a panoramic view. There were even fireworks being shot off in between buildings in the background. Everywhere.

It was quite overwhelming as I kept having to turn my head from side to side to see all of them at once. I was on the fake inner city beach which just added yet another interesting visual element to the show, as the lights reflected off the water.

Also, the F111 jet flew by a few times - and for those of you who do not know, this jet flies faster than the speed of sound. You can hear it coming, but when it is right over head (which is when you would think it would be the loudest) it is actually more quiet. Bizarre.

Overall, it was just AMAZING. Here are some pictures I took:

DURIAN PARTY!

Last Friday we had a DURIAN PARTY!!! Durian, which is known for its distinct odor and is banned from public transportation and hotels around asia, is actually one of my favorite foods! It is very spikey on the outside and the insides are custard-like pods of creaminess. They look similar to alien fetuses...... but delicious ones! Here are some pictures from our get together durian celebration:
