interested classmates

Today in Government my teacher was talking about how she can not be absolute about anything... but then she turned to me and was like... "except that Ashley here is healthier than me!"

and i was like wait WHAT!? HAHA!

so then everyone was really confused and my teacher just said, "I don't know if you guys know this, but Ashley is one of the healthiest souls on the planet!"

and then my good friend who sits in the back butted in "yeah she is a raw vegan, she only eats foods straight from nature!!!"

I was psyched. ALL SMILES!!!

So... Somehow I became a big hit in science class today!? Let me explain:

This girl was reading through this project I wrote and she saw the words, "raw vegan" and asked what that meant. I explained it to her and she was EXTREMELY interested. She started asking me what I eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner and what i do and dont eat - she was intrigued! So I handed her my 80/10/10 book and she read the pages on Humans vs. Carnivores. Reading this made her even more interested, so we talked back and forth from opposite sides of the classroom while my teacher was helping others on organizing their work. Eventually I just went and sat next to her because I hate talking across the room - and soon enough a crowd of people sat around me to listen to me talk! LOL! it was hilarious. I was answering tons of questions - as if i was a famous orator or polititian! Finally the one girl says to my teacher, "CAN WE HAVE AN ASHLEY DAY!? I WANT AN ASHLEY DAY! SHE IS SO COOL! LETS HAVE AN ASHLEY DAY!!!" and my teacher just kept agreeing that i was really cool. It was a pretty funny experience!!! I love answering questions!!!

That sounds like an amazing experience. I love it when others are genuinely interested in what I am doing instead of just asking questions so that they can argue their views. You are an amazing girl!!!

Ashley the prophet speaks!! Sounds like you are reaching alot of classmates with your healthy lifestyle. AND I see it is paying off as I just saw your ranking in the 8a Yearbook for 2007 this weekend. Way to go, you little rock-scooter.

Wow, lucky you! I had the same thing happen to me except that it was rather awkward. I had my vegetarian shirt on and my algebra teacher noticed it and asked me whether I was a vegetarian for
"the animals or because I thought meat was gross." When I told her I was a vegetarian for the health benefits she kinda looked at me like I was crazy. She asked me whether I thought meat was unhealthy. I hesistated (I really didn't want to create a scene) but then told her that yes, I thought it was. Then she was like, "Well, haven't you ever heard of the food pyramid?? and laughed. Grrr...sometimes I hate being the only vegan around. I'm not outspoken like you seem to be so it gets kind of uncomfortable when I'm bombarded with questions from both my classmates and teacher. But you always seem to handle everything so smoothly! I can almost picture you talking to the whole class about the benefits of a raw vegan diet right now. Keep on spreading the word, we need you!

Paulina, tell them to check the food chain pyramid. And you're tired of being the top order omnivore on the pyramid and chose to move down to the first consumer level, right after that wide base level biomass of producers. See how that goes over.

So, did I miss 'Ashley Day' for 2008? Will this be an annual event/holiday I can mark down on my calendar, like on Oct 15th, or are you gonna go with the third Friday of a certain month each year? I'm anxiously waiting so I can scribble it down on my new 'Women of Climbing' calendar for 2009.

Oh cool! Your own day! You are a light wherever you go!
If one person takes your knowledge and improves their life - you may actually help them avoid a life threatening condition.
Keep up the great work!

As much as 'Ash gripes about school, I think she is destined to be a teacher of some kind. She relates well across the generations, and she certainly has the energy for those 18 hour teacher work days.

haha I've had that happen in school before. During the experiences, I get plenty of positive feedback and really refreshing comments, but there's always gotta be a few naysayers doubting the entire lifestyle. Sometimes it just takes a little convincing to get them to open their eyes.

I'm glad you're spreading the word, you badash.
